Last Beast

I’m offering up a couple snaps of an old box, the last in a series called the Jammy! The series came about in 2011. I had been building speakers for my studio and hi-fi needs and through word of mouth even had a few commissioned works and store placements. At the time I figured the best way to proceed would lie in creating a product. Something that could be replicated easily and then configured to the needs of the user. In the age of miniaturization and plasticizing the obvious path for me was a massive wooden boombox.

BMR stands for “balanced mode radiator” a speaker driver technology currently offered by Tectonic Elements and on display in force on this speaker. This type of driver combines pistonic movement with surface excitation to present a wide dispersion pattern and frequency bandwidth.

The cabinet is made from several CNC machined layers which incorporate separate cavities for each of the drivers.

This speaker features 2.1 channel operation with independent control of stereo, sub and overall volume.

MONITOR TEST

SPECS

The photo below is the first monitor I built for my project studio. Back in 2011 I was pretty excited that I was able to build what turned out to be decent speakers.

I finally took a second stab at it and came up with something tight, these are the test cabinets. The room my wife allotted me for a studio is a little guy, so I chose a sealed design. Up front lies a dual ring-radiator tweeter from Tymphany and an aluminum 6.5″ woofer from Fountek. Around the sides mounted back to back in an impulse compensated configuration are two 8″ Subwoofers from an Dayton Audio.

Like I said before these are the test cabinets, but I’ve been testing them for about a year and I’m still floored. A post on the amplifier section in its test configuration is soon to follow, along with the final cabinet design as soon as I can stop using them.
